Serpent Spear: equip, range 3. May discard any 2 hand cards in place of playing an Attack card. If that venom attack is dodged, the target is poisoned instead — they take 1 damage at their next turn-start unless they discard a card to cure it.

Equip Serpent Spear when your hand is full but you're short on Attacks — it turns cards clogging your hand into a range-3 strike that reaches almost clear across an eight-seat table. Rebels swarming the Lord, or any aggressor sitting on a fat hand, want it most. Even a target who dodges still takes the venom — 1 damage next turn unless they spend a card to cure it — so it keeps pressure on Dodge-rich hands. Just remember it costs two cards per Attack, so it drains a thin hand fast — save it for surplus turns or the killing blow.

It pairs with Zhang Fei (Roar), feeding his unlimited Attacks from any two cards until the target runs out of Defense. Add Ma Chao (Horsemanship) and Red Hare to shrink distance and reach any seat, and it keeps Lu Bu (Peerless) — and anyone dragged into a Duel — stocked with Attacks to win the exchange.

A played Dodge no longer blocks it clean — the venom poisons you, and next turn you must spend another card to cure it or take 1, so Serpent pressures even Dodge-rich hands. Negate won't help, since it isn't a trick. Your clean outs are Eight Trigrams' auto-dodge and Shadow Runner's extra range, which sidestep the venom entirely; and it still burns two cards per strike, so stall the game and make them overspend.
